Heading into the last week of February, the first year carpentry class learned to put up wallforms for pouring concrete walls. The hands-on lab work allowed us to combine many of the skills we’ve practiced over the past weeks, including using the transit level, snapping lines, and leveling forms. On the last day, there was a quick lesson on properly cutting plywood with a skill saw. We also learned the difference between walers, wailers and whalers. Hint: The last two have nothing to do with concrete wallforms.
